EXPLOTRAIN LLC WMD Explosive Blast Simulator
Introduction The Explosive Blast Simulator Trainer (EBST) grew out of the need to replace the use of live explosive charges in certain training environments. The requirement was to provide a safe and realistic substitute for live explosives used as monitoring charges in EOD/IED training scenarios. The Blast Simulator meets this requirement using a propane and oxygen cannon controlled by an electronics package. The unit is mounted on a mobile cart and is capable of operating in all weather conditions. Explotrain has provided equipment demonstrations and technical briefings to government agencies over the last five years, and has incorporated the government's requirements into the manufacture of the first Patented Explosive Blast Simulator System. These Simulator Systems are now in service with US Department of Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School, U.S. State Department’s Explosive Incident Countermeasures Course, and the Department of Justice’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. They are providing a safe, realistic, timesaving, and cost-effective alternative to live explosive monitoring of training scenarios. OperationThe simulator is controlled by an laptop computer, software and electronics package that accepts a range of fuze firing inputs from mines, ordnance, improvised explosive device’s (IED's), booby-trap, and other training devices. The firing signal is linked from the monitored training device to the electronics package via the laptop computer and wireless Infrared (IR) or Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter/receiver unit. A handheld wireless remote control arms / disarms and can also fire the simulator. When the monitored training device is armed, a full color video signal is recorded onto the laptop's hard drive to serve as a time-stamp record of the exercise. Fuze signals are continuously transmitted from the monitored device via a miniature IR/RF transmitter. If the signals meet the limits set in the laptop's software, the simulator firing chamber fills with a mixture of propane and oxygen and is ignited. The signal to fill and fire sequence is accomplished in approximately one second. The result is a 120 dB (at 1 meter) “BANG”, pressure wave and visible fireball. The video and resulting fire signals are recorded to provide "lessons learned" debriefings. Training Devices to accompany the Blast Simulator are available to meet every need. Explotrain can build and deliver a total training scenario right to your doorstep. If you have an occasional or one time requirement for our simulator system, and would like to use our products in your next exercise, leasing options are available under our Scenarios-to-Go Program, call us for a quote.
